Obituary of Bert Junior Harvey

Bert Junior Harvey, 83, was born on November 15,1933 to Scott and Cornelia Harvey of Bramwell, WV. Bert was raised by his grandparents, Jerry and Maggie Jenkins. He entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 23, 2016. Bert was a long time resident of Wythe County,VA where he lived since leaving his childhood home in Bramwell, WV at the age of 4. He attended school in New Hope, VA, and obtained his GED diploma while serving his country. He did one tour of duty with the U.S. Navy serving on the cruiser, the USS Des Moines. He returned home to us for a short stay. Liking the structure or military life, he joined the US. Army and served our country for an additional 12 years. His travels took him around the world including Sweden, Okinawa and Japan. Bert loved to read and enjoyed spending time with his family. The Jenkins clan looked upon him as Mr. Mom. He practically raised all of Ernest and Margaret Jenkins’ children. The Jenkins Clan idolized “Bert”, he is our father, brother and our mentor. Bert, thanks for all the love and care you have shown us. WE LOVE YOU! He leaves behind to cherish his memories - Hazel (Doug) Robinson, Lois (James) Lee, James Ernest (Mollie) Jenkins, Jr., Dorothy (Eddie) Barbour, Walker (Threasa) Jenkins, Patricia Somerville, and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends. Funeral service will be held at 11 AM Friday, November 25, 2016 at Grubb Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Pastor Don Byrd, with interment to follow in Rosewood Memorial Cemetery, Rural Retreat, with the American Legion Post #9 conducting military graveside rites. The family will receive friends at Grubb Funeral Home from 10 AM until service time. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Speedwell Volunteer Fire Department, Speedwell, VA.
