Lewis Randolph “Dotchie” Grubb, 75, passed away Friday, May 24th, at his home in Crockett.

Dotchie was born in Wytheville, Virginia on February 5th, 1949, to Charlie Frank and Hallie Sharpe Grubb.

A Rural Retreat High School graduate, he served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971. In 1974, he received his AAS Degree, but put his pursuit of a bachelor’s degree on hold to care for his father.

After his father’s death, Dotchie and his brother Walter Robert “Dubby R” Grubb purchased the family farm and homeplace in Greasy Creek and raised beef cattle there. He wed Barbara Jo “Bobbie” Burton in 1979 and over the next 6 years they welcomed their three children and settled in the home in Crockett where Dotchie would spend the rest of his life.

He began working as a lineman at Radford Arsenal in the mid 1980’s and spent the next two decades raising his family and farming or attending his children’s many ball games after work.

Upon retiring in 2012, Dotchie enjoyed genealogy and local history, traveling and playing golf. A lifelong baseball fan, he attended many local games of interest and travelled to Yankee Stadium and Florida for spring training.

Although he regretted that his declining health prevented him from traveling more in retirement, Dotchie became a grandfather in 2016, and nothing brought him more joy in his final years than his visits with his grandchildren.

Dotchie was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Ralph Lee Grubb, Walter Robert “Dubby R” Grubb, Charles Douglas Grubb, and Doris Grubb Crittenden.

Dotchie is survived by his sister Irene Grubb Jones, his sisters-in-law Rebecca Wohlford Grubb and Norma Catron Grubb, the mother of his children Barbara Jo “Bobbie” Burton Grubb, his children Amy Denise Grubb Rowe (Larry Jr., Aiden, Moriah), Joseph Mark Grubb, and Charles Edward Grubb (Cara), his grandchildren Grace Mae Rowe, Caimin Lewis Grubb and Calina Jean Grubb, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors from 5-7PM on Wednesday, May 29th, at the Grubb Funeral Home, 215 South 6th Street, Wytheville, with a service to follow. The graveside service will be held at 10AM on Thursday, May 30th at Berea Christian Church Cemetery, 996 Berea Rd. Wytheville. The family asks that memorial donations be made to the Berea Cemetery Fund, The Relay For Life or a charitable cause of your choice.
