
Obituary of Penny Sue Plummer
Penny Sue Plummer, 70, of Wytheville, VA, passed peacefully into happy hunting grounds on January 31, 2024. Her sudden passing was unexpected, as Penny had been in good health and full of life.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents, Mack D. Boggs and Liz LaMac, and her brother, Jeffery M. Boggs. She is survived by her devoted husband of over 45 years, David Plummer; her loving daughter, Christina Brady, and son-in-law, J.R.; and her two treasured granddaughters, Grace and Abigail Brady. Penny is also survived by her sisters Sheree Schold, and husband Cliff; and Sonia McGee; and her brother, Martin Boggs, and wife Sheila. She leaves behind two beloved aunts, a niece, several nephews, and countless friends who were touched by her gentle and loving nature.
Born in Huntington, WV, Penny lived a vibrant and adventurous life. She was a dreamer, a free spirit, and a nurturer to all who knew her. During her younger years, she owned and operated her own daycare center in Buckhannon, WV, creating a haven of love and care for children and their families. Later, Penny spent a decade traveling the country as a mystery shopper for a family business, always adding her curiosity and wonder to the journey.
In 1996, Penny settled in Wytheville, VA, where she became a guide at the Wolf Creek Indian Village, a 14-year role that allowed her to share her passion for history and her deep respect for indigenous cultures. While there, she poured her heart into organizing the All Nations Green Corn Festival & Pow Wow, an event that brought people together in celebration of nature, community, and heritage. Penny had a deep knowledge and passion for a natural way of life, following Native American values and embracing the beauty of the world around her. She was an avid gardener who found joy in the earth and a creative soul in the kitchen who shared her love through her “Morning Glorious” muffins, violet jelly and countless other tasty gestures. To know Penny was to love her. She was a gentle, whimsical spirit who lived life fully and inspired others to do the same. Her adventurous nature, her open heart, and her vibrant energy will remain in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her. Her family takes comfort in knowing that Penny is now soaring freely over the red road, forever guided by the values she held dear.
A memorial service to celebrate Penny’s life will be held in the summer of 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lost Fantasy Rescue, in honor of her memory.
