Obituary of Stephen "Sandy" Sanders Watts, Jr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stephen “Sandy” Sanders Watts Jr., of Ivanhoe, Virginia, on January 3, 2025. He was a beloved dairy farmer whose gentle spirit and unwavering dedication touched the lives of many. Born August 30, 1955, in Pulaski VA, Sandy passed way at the age of 69, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and love. Born and raised in the rural landscapes that he so dearly loved, Sandy dedicated his life to the art and science of dairy farming. His days began before the sun rose and often ended long after it had set. To Sandy, farming was not just a profession but a calling, a way of life that connected him to the land, the animals and the community. After retiring from dairy farming, Sandy embarked on a second career as a long-distance truck driver. His new journey took him across the country, where he continued to find joy in the open road, the changing landscapes, and the new people he met along the way. His stories of life on the road consisted mostly of the various landscapes, which he found as captivating as they were diverse, adding to the rich tapestry of his life experiences. In addition to farming and trucking, Sandy had a love for sports and good food. When the Dallas Cowboys were winning, he was a # 1 fan. He had a quick dry sense of humor. Sandy is survived by his sister Suzanne, brother William (Trenda), nephew Will, special cousin Hal Pope (Barbara) and a host of cousins and close friends. Sandy was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Grace Watts and brother Bryan. A celebration of Sandy’s life will be held at a later time.
