
Obituary of Mary B Johnson
Mary B. Johnson (Fraser) died peacefully at home in Wytheville on May 26, 2025, after a long illness. She was 85 years old. Mary was born on May 23, 1940, and grew up in Pepperell, Massachusetts, where she graduated high school and met her future husband, Edward Johnson. She was a lifelong member of the Lawrence United Methodist Church in Pepperell, and later, at West End Methodist Church in Wytheville, Va., where she sang in the choir, taught Bible study, acted in Christmas plays, provided guest sermons, and made lifelong friends. Mary loved writing, exercising, gardening, studying the Bible, playing the piano, and spending time with her daughters Susan McQuaide, Cynthia Johnson, and Wendy Johnson. She was kind, funny, full of surprises, and a woman of unwavering faith in God.
She is predeceased by her husband of 49 years and her beloved rescue kitty, Bitzy, and is survived by her daughters, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and a life full of memories, love, and laughter. She will be deeply missed.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the West End Methodist Church with Pastor Natlie Drummond officiating. Interment will follow in West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 A.M. until the time of the service at the church on Thursday.
