Obituary of Robert Larry Sult

Robert Larry Sult, age 73, passed away Friday, June 6th, 2025. Larry was born on May 13, 1952, in Wytheville to Robert Lee and Julia Dodgion Sult. Larry served his country proudly in the United States Army as a member of the 3rd Infantry Division stationed in Germany. He recounted his many adventures to his children in bedtime stories lovingly called “army stories.” Larry had a big laugh, friendly personality, and a unique sense of humor he shared with everyone. He didn’t need to know you to laugh with you, and he never met a stranger. Larry loved meeting new people and talking to old friends. He enjoyed learning new things and stayed busy working on new projects and ideas. All of these qualities served him well as partner/owner (HMFIC) of B&M True Value in Wytheville for 20 years. His favorite job and the one he most excelled at was, “Dad” and “Pop-Pop.” He always knew what mattered most. He put his family first in everything he did, oftentimes dropping everything to support them. Larry spent every day of his life making sure his children and grandchildren knew how important they were to him and how much he loved them. He was never too busy or tired to do whatever activity his kids and grandkids could rope him into. He was always so proud of every single one of them. One of those adventures led him to a love for coaching elementary athletics, where he took great pride in teaching his children and many other children about teamwork and having fun. Larry was completely devoted to his children and grandchildren all of his life and earned their devotion in return. It was his greatest achievement and earned him the nickname, “King Daddy.” No adventure with his kids was out of bounds. While losing him is a great loss that we can never expect to fully heal from, having him as a Dad, Pop-Pop, family member, and friend is one the greatest gifts we could have ever received. He lived his life happy and with a smile on his face, and that is how he would want everyone to remember him, happy and with a smile on their face. Larry is survived by his wife, Susan Sult, who offered immense support and caregiving in his final years. He was a loving father to his daughter and son-in-law, Sidney Erin and Brett Poole; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Noah and Mary Sult; and son and daughter-in-law, Christopher Benjamin and Sarah Sult. He was an adoring Pop-Pop to his grandchildren, Ricky Sult, Luke Poole, and Eliza Olivine Sult. He is also survived by his niece Crystal Frye, his sister-in-law, Jerri Kelly, and many special fur babies. Special thanks to Jennifer Nichols and Wayne Hall for their dependable and unwavering care and support of Larry and the family in his final years. Larry was preceded in death by his father and mother, his beloved sister Connie and brother-in-law, Kenneth Baker, and brother-in-law Eugene Kelly. Per Larry’s wishes there will be no public service or visitation. The family asks instead, that in remembrance, you take a moment to think of Larry and a conversation or moment you spent with him. If you wish to share that memory (the funnier the better) you may do so on Grubb Funeral Home website, Facebook, or via mail. In lieu of flowers, Larry would have wanted you to: Do something fun with your family, make a donation to Paws for Purple Hearts or donate to a charity that benefits children, veterans, or animals. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.grubbfuneralhome.com Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
