Roger Dale Akers, affectionately known as “Top Dawg,” passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on February 22, 1948, in Piney, Virginia, Roger was the beloved son of the late Josephine Arnold Akers and John Akers.
Roger was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Akers; his daughter Jessica Cochran and her husband Kyle of Max Meadows, and their children Ailey and Beckett Cochran, whom he deeply cherished; and his son Todd Akers of Ivanhoe, along with Todd’s children Chasity Petty, Nicole Hunter, and Parker Akers. Roger was also blessed with several great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister Audrey Coleman and her husband David, his brother Greg Akers and his wife Debbie, his sister-in-law Kathi Akers, and brother-in-law Ronnie Daniels. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Donna Gail Daniels and Lahoma Akers, and his brother Sam Akers.
Roger spent over 50 years on the road as a dedicated truck driver and was the proud owner and operator of A&A Trucking. Known for his strong work ethic and steady presence, he built a career rooted in reliability and determination. Off the road, his heart belonged to drag racing and the close-knit community at Elk Creek Dragway. There, he found more than friendship — he found family. The bonds he built at the track lasted a lifetime and brought him immeasurable joy.
Roger will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty, quick wit, and deep love for his family and friends. His legacy lives on in every story told at the track, every mile traveled, and every life he touched along the way.
