Marjorie Umberger "Memie" Wassum, 95, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, in Mechanicsville, Virginia. Born on June 10, 1930, in Wytheville, Virginia, she lived a long and meaningful life rooted in family, faith, and community.
Marjorie was a lifelong resident of Wytheville for most of her years and was deeply connected to the town she called home. Alongside her beloved husband Jim Wassum, she co-owned and operated Wytheville Cleaners & Coin Laundry for many years.
A woman of deep Christian faith, Marjorie was a devoted member of Wytheville Baptist Church.
Marjorie’s greatest joy came from her family. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Patti Jones (Gene) and Tom Wassum (Teresa). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Lucas Jones (Sonya), Austin Jones (Melissa), Elizabeth Undercoffer (Mason), and Ben Wassum (Hannah Kintzel). She was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Waylon Jones, Barrett Jones, Adaline Jones, and Hayden Jones.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Wassum, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and partnership. Marjorie is also survived and fondly remembered by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service honoring Marjorie's life will be held at Wytheville Baptist Church, 205 Church Street, Wytheville, Virginia on August 9, 2025. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM with the funeral following at 3:00 PM. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.grubbfuneralhome.com
