William Fletcher “Ranger” Dix, age 73, passed away suddenly at his home Wednesday, August 6. He was born in Wytheville on January 26, 1952, to the late John Dix and Rossie Irvin Dix. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Roger Dix and sister, Patsy Lindsey, nephew, Daniel Dix, sister-in-law, Phyllis Dix, sister-in-law, Teddi Kincer Yates and brother-in-law, David Yates.

Bill worked 40 years at VDOT at Big Walker Mountain Tunnel retiring as Tunnel Superintendent. Throughout the years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, card playing, but enjoyed good conversation and company. Ranger was a member of the Wytheville Moose Lodge #394 and Bland Masonic Lodge #206 A.F. & A.M.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Sherry Kincer Dix, daughters, Amy Dix of Wytheville, Brooke Dix, and granddaughter, Zoey Cochran of Apex, NC; sister, Zella Irvin (Richard), brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Becky Dix, JW, Sam and Gayle Dix, and Danny Ray and Donna Dix. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held at 6 P.M. Saturday August 9, 2025 at the Grubb Funeral Home with Pastor Stephen Cornett officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 P.M.
