In Loving Memory of Frances Virginia Wolford Stowers January 13, 1936 – August 7, 2025, Heaven welcomed home one of its faithful servants as Frances Virginia Wolford Stowers, 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior. Born on January 13, 1936, to the late Joseph Edgar Wolford and Ollie Mae McKnight Wolford, she lived a life full of love, service, and devotion to her family and her faith.
She was blessed with many gifts—cooking, baking, gardening, and sewing—but her greatest passion was her five children, and her purest delight was in the Lord. Her prayers built our family, and we rejoice knowing that her faith is now sight as she is home in glory. Though she will be deeply missed, we rest in the promise that, “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8).
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Reverend Marion “Buddy” Stowers, Jr.; her brothers, Charles Wolford and Allen Wolford; and her sister, Betty Meek.
She is survived by her children Teresa Gibson (Glenn), Melissa Smith (Ronnie), Eddie Stowers, Marion “Mooney” Stowers, III, and Faith Stowers (Copenhaver). She also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren Erica Gibson Robertson (Dylan), Leah Gibson Wilhite (Jarrod), Sarah Gibson Soetermans (Nikolas), Daniel Smith (Wendy), Lindsay Smith, Maggie Copenhaver, and Troy Copenhaver and several nieces and nephews. Her legacy continues through her five great-grandchildren—Wyatt Robertson, Tyne Robertson, Merritt Wilhite, Sadie Wilhite, and Elaina Soetermans and soon to be AllieRuth Soetermans; three special friends, Loraine Houseman, Mary Rhodes and Pat Snapp.
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to Wytheville Hospice for helping take care of her in her final days and a special caregiver, Sheila Abrahams. The family request in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital - 262 Danny Thomas Place - Memphis, TN 38105 or Presbyterian Children's Home 425 Grayson Rd, Wytheville, VA 24382
A celebration of her life will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday, August 10, 2025 at the Grubb Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Bell and Brian Wolford officiating. Interment will follow in the West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 2 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
