Debra “Debbie” Sexton Hancock, 67, of Wytheville, went home to her Savior on Saturday, September 6, 2025. Born on May 18, 1958, to the late Jim and Lolly Cregger Sexton, Debbie lived a life radiant with faith and boundless love. Her unwavering belief in Jesus Christ was the heartbeat of her existence, shown through her tireless volunteering at church whenever she was able and her readiness to help anyone in need with a kind, giving heart. Friends cherished her as a constant source of support, always there with a warm smile or a selfless act of kindness that reflected the love of Jesus. Above all, Debbie’s granddaughters, Samantha and Stella, were her entire world, transforming her days with joy. She poured her heart into spoiling them—whether cooking their favorite meals, showering them with gifts, or simply sharing precious moments together—making it clear to everyone she met that her girls were her greatest treasure.
Debbie’s love warmed the hearts of all who knew her, leaving a legacy of devotion. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Susie Sexton and Becky Sarkijarvi, and her brothers, Jimmy Sexton, Rickey Sexton, and Pete Sexton. She is survived by her son Joshua and his wife, Amy Hancock, of Bastian, whom she adored as a daughter. Her son Justin “J.D.” Hancock and his beloved partner, Andrew Romero, of Roanoke, held a special place in her heart. Her granddaughters, Samantha Hancock, with her boyfriend Ray Martin, whom Debbie cherished like a grandson, and Stella Hancock, were her pride and joy, alongside her cherished niece, Madison Cornett, whom she embraced as a granddaughter with unwavering love, showering her with the same tenderness she gave her own girls. Debbie’s sisters, Ginger Sexton Cornett and Nancy Sexton Stroupe, and her cherished friend, Bonnie Marsh, loved as a sister, all of Wytheville, along with sisters-in-law, Toni Sexton and Sharon Sexton, also of Wytheville, remain to honor her memory. Her many nieces and nephews, whom she loved as her own, and a host of dear friends, will forever carry the light of her kindness.
Debbie’s life of faith and love will be celebrated with a funeral service at 11 A.M. Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Grubb Funeral Home, led by her sister, Reverend Ginger Sexton Cornett, and Reverend J.C. McPeak, who will honor her deep devotion to Jesus Christ. Interment will follow in the Rosenbaum Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery, a fitting resting place for her faithful soul. The family welcomes friends to share memories and celebrate Debbie’s light from 5 to 7 P.M. Wednesday at Grubb Funeral Home. A heartfelt thank you goes to the compassionate staff of Pulaski Health and Rehab, whose care brought comfort and kindness to Debbie in her final days.
