Mark Stanley Sarver, 70, of Bland, Virginia passed away peacefully at his home on November 7, 2025. Born on February 26, 1955, in Bluefield, West Virginia, Mark was the son of the late Raymond “Corky” and Joy Sarver.
He is preceded in death by his parents, father & mother-in-law (Joe & Hila Romano) and sister-in-law (Sharon Meadows).
Mark is survived by his wife of 49 years, Bridget Romano Sarver, daughters and sons-in-law Ashleigh Beasley (Matt) of Christiansburg, VA, and their children Lucas and Savannah and Grace Reed (Travis) of Bland, VA, and their children Addie, Chris, Ella, Eden, Scarlett, Troy, and Thomas, and son Andy Sarver of Bland, VA. He is also survived by his brothers, Steve Sarver (Alice Ann) and Doug Sarver (Debbie), sister, Marianna Sarver, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Vince and Denise Romano, Tim and Sharon Romano and John Kevin and Charlene Romano, brother-in-law, R.L. Meadows, Jr., and several nieces and nephews.
Mark was a certified USPTA Professional of over 45 years, a native of Bluefield, WV and enjoyed over 50 years in the tennis profession as a player, coach, tennis teaching professional at various resorts and clubs, from 1996-2000 serving as President and CEO and delegate of the USTA Mid-Atlantic section, and most recently as an ITA official at all levels including Power 4 matchups — all roles that reflected his deep commitment to the sport and its community.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mark was a devoted husband, father and “Poppa” to his beloved grandchildren. He was an educator, coach and mentor who touched countless lives through his influence on and off the tennis court. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 11, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Grubb Funeral Home in Wytheville, VA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 12, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary the Mother of God Catholic Church in Wytheville, VA.
