Steven Lance Grubb Obituary

Steven Lance Grubb, 70, passed away on December 11, 2025, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 9, 1955, in Wytheville, Virginia, Steven lived a life marked by dedication to his work, deep love for his family, and a joyful spirit that touched all who knew him.

A graduate of George Wythe High School, Steven went on to build a remarkable career as a professional truck driver. Over the course of 34 years behind the wheel of a semi-truck, he demonstrated an unwavering commitment to safety and excellence. His outstanding record was recognized with a prestigious award for driving over one million miles without a single accident while working for Heartland Express—a testament to his skill and professionalism.

Steven's life was grounded in the simple joys that brought him happiness. He cherished time spent with friends and family—whether gathered around playing games or sharing music together. He found peace in the hum of his lawn mower and relaxation in enjoying a good cigar. These everyday pleasures reflected his down-to-earth nature and appreciation for life’s quiet moments.

He was deeply loved by those closest to him and will be remembered for his loving heart, tireless work ethic, and sense of humor that could brighten any room. His presence brought warmth and laughter into the lives of many.

Steven is survived by his devoted wife, Maxine Grubb; daughters Brandi Allen and Hannah (Nathan) Kidd; grandchildren Tristan Allen, Emily Allen, Colton Kidd, and Piper Kidd; sister Jane Starling; brother Troy Grubb, and several wonderful nieces and nephews. His legacy also lives on through the memories shared by extended family members and friends who were fortunate to know him.

He was preceded in death by his father Edgar Grubb; mother, Shirley Sanders Grubb; brother Timothy Grubb; and brother-in-law Fred Starling.

Per Steven’s wishes, there will be no funeral. There will be a small memorial for close friends and family in the future. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Judes. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.grubbfuneralhome.com
