David Edward Hedrick, born October 21, 1946, in Wytheville, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, December 27th surrounded by love. He was the only child of Edward and Josephine Umberger Hedrick. David graduated from George Wythe High School in 1965 and later served in the United States Navy, stationed at Oceana and Norfolk Naval Air Stations. In 1969, David married the love of his life, Regena Hounshell Hedrick. Their marriage of 56 years was rooted in devotion, laughter, and partnership.
David enjoyed a successful 30-year career with The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, beginning as a store salesman and advancing to management positions across Virginia before relocating his family to Chesapeake, Virginia in 1986.
David and Regena raised two sons, Joseph Edward and Brandon Douglas, instilling values of integrity, hard work, and family. David enjoyed fishing on his boat and watching college football, faithfully cheering on Virginia Tech and Old Dominion University—often wearing both teams’ colors when they faced each other. He was a supporter of the American Red Cross having donated more than sixteen gallons of blood.
David’s greatest joy was being “Trey -Trey” to his grandchildren, Colin and Autumn, whom he adored. David was also known for his generosity, craftsmanship in stained glass, love of travel, and appreciation for good food, laughter, and time spent with friends and family.
David is survived by his wife of 56 years, Regena Hounshell Hedrick; his sons, Joe (Amy) and Brandon (Stephanie); his grandchildren, Colin and Autumn; his sister-in-law, Ann Gayle Thomas; his beloved grand-dog, Apollo; and many special cousins and lifelong friends. David lived fully, loved deeply, and gave generously. He will be missed beyond measure.
