Donna Marie Thompson Havens, 81, of Statesville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026. She was born and raised in Wytheville, Virginia, a place that always remained close to her heart.

Donna was the beloved wife of Roy Roger Havens and the devoted mother of Gregory Andrew Havens, both of whom preceded her in death. To know Donna was to know how deeply and fiercely she loved her family. Her husband and her son were her most favorite people in the world, and there is comfort in knowing she is now joyfully reunited with them.

Donna is survived by her cherished grandchildren, Gregory Logan Havens and Lauren Blake Havens, and her adored great-granddaughter, Ovella Lucille Havens, who brought her immense pride and joy.

Donna retired from Southern Bell, where she worked faithfully as a telephone operator. Retirement allowed her to step fully into one of the most meaningful roles of her life—being “Mawmaw.” She poured her heart into her grandchildren, patiently teaching them their ABCs, 123s, how to spell their names, and even how to write their address. When they started school, Donna would sometimes surprise them by showing up with a packed lunch so they could sit and enjoy it together—small moments that became lifelong memories.

She was a steady presence, a teacher, a caregiver, and a source of unconditional love. Donna’s legacy lives on in the values she instilled, the knowledge she shared, and the deep bonds she formed with her family. Her love was constant, reassuring, and unforgettable.

A funeral service will be held at Grubb Funeral Home in Wytheville, Virginia, beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 12th.

Donna will be remembered for her devotion to family, her gentle guidance, and the warmth she brought into the lives of those she loved. She will be deeply missed and forever treasured.
