James (Jim) Howard Palmer Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James (Jim) Howard Palmer at the age of 81, on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. Jim was the beloved son of Robert Ernest and Mary Ethel Palmer, born on January 2, 1945, in Pulaski, Virginia.


He is survived by his loving wife of 60 cherished years, Sandra Whitaker Palmer, sister, Linda Palmer Tickle (Mike) of Midwest City, Oklahoma, special nephew, Richard Ernest Palmer (Pam) of Dublin, Virginia, and special friends, Larry (“little brother”) Pruitt (Wanda) of Wytheville, Virginia.


Jim is preceded in death by his siblings, Ada Marie (Polly) Osborne, Billy Richard Clark Palmer, Jack Edward Clark Palmer and Herbert Lee (Knob) Palmer.


Jim attended National Business College and received two associates degrees, Industrial Supervision and Business Management from New River Community College. A dedicated professional, Jim worked for American Electric Power for an impressive 39 1/2 years where he was known for his commitment and strong work ethic. He was also a proud member of the National Guard, serving his community and country with pride. After retirement, Jim and Sandra’s travels spanned the globe creating lasting memories and treasured friendships. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love, and adventure.


Funeral service will be held 11 A.M. on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Grubb Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Pastor Kelly Marshell. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10 A.M until service time. A graveside service will be at 2 P.M. at Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, VA.
