Summer Elexis Rosenbaum Tibbits, age 22, of Ferrum, Virginia, passed away on Friday night, February 13, 2026, in a tragic car accident.
Summer was born on May 24, 2003, in Portsmouth, Virginia. Her loving parents are Steven and Danielle Tibbits. From an early age, Summer’s bold personality beamed brightly. Her magnetic spirit drew people in—she carried a light all her own. She had a remarkable way of making others feel seen, chosen, and deeply loved.
She graduated a year early from Salem High School in 2020, a testament to her determination and drive. Summer worked as a Medical Communications Specialist and Clinical Associate in the Emergency Department at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was widely known for her strong work ethic, dependability, natural leadership, and her gift for teaching and guiding others. Her colleagues admired her competence, confidence, and compassionate heart.
More than anything, Summer will be remembered for her quick wit, fun-loving personality,
beautiful smile, and her big, bold, infectious laugh that could fill any room. She was fiercely
loyal and loved her family and friends with unwavering devotion. She carried a strong moral
character and a radiant light that shone brightly wherever she went.
Summer fiercely loved Jesus, her family, and her friends. She loved every animal on the planet and would have saved them all if she could. She cherished her music and, from a very early age, loved traveling and attending concerts with her friends. She lived to make memories and was known for bringing fun and excitement wherever she went. Those who knew her understood that to be chosen as her friend was a gift. Her life, though far too short, was filled with deep purpose and immeasurable love.
She is survived by her devoted parents, Danielle and Steven Tibbits of Ferrum, Virginia; her
sister, Stephanie Nguyen of California; her grandparents, Damon and Debbie Rosenbaum of Wytheville, Virginia; her uncle and aunt, Kevin and Cindy Gilman of North Carolina; her
cousins, David and Ashley Gilman, April and Dylan Thomas, and Jesse and Bentley Gilman; as well as many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members who cherished her deeply.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandfather, Damon Odell Rosenbaum, Sr.
We find comfort in knowing that Summer is now in the arms of Jesus Christ, restored in His
glory in Heaven where there are only joy and peace. “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” – 2 Corinthians 5:8. Though our hearts ache terribly in her absence, we hold tightly to the promise that she is whole and radiant in the presence of the Lord. Her story does not end here, it continues in eternity. We are forever grateful for the blood Jesus shed, allowing us the promise of being reunited with her one day.
In her 22 years, Summer impacted more hearts than most do in a lifetime. Her smile brought comfort. Her presence brought excitement and joy. Her love ran deep and true. She leaves behind a family who adored her and friends who will forever carry her legacy and her light.
Summer’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Grubb Funeral Home and Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Summer’s name to your local SPCA. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.grubbfuneralhome.com
