We are welcoming home a Korean War Hero, Missing in Action and precious family member. Corporal Patton will finally be interred at his resting place 75 years after his death.
Son of the late Dillard Whitten Patton and Edna Mae Davis Patton. He was born in Tazewell, VA and attended Cedar Bluff Elementary School and Cottage Hill High School. After graduating, he went into the United States Army on January 4, 1949. He served with B Company, 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. Corporal Pattons unit was part of the Task Force Smith. He went Missing in Action on July 5, 1950, in Osan, South Korea, which is south of Seoul. He was pronounced deceased on December 31, 1953; however, his remains were not identified until August 1, 2025. He received the Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Citation, Republic of Korea War Service Medal,
United Nations Service Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, Army Good Conduct Medal and Marksmanship Badge. Corporal Marvin Silvester Patton is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific and at the Honolulu Memorial. His name is inscribed on the Korean War Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, DC.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Carl Roger Patton, Maggie Mae Patton Rose, Johnny Lee Patton, Bessie Louise Patton, Dillard Shawyer Patton, Walter Edward Patton, Charles Jessee Patton, Sandra Lee Patton McFarland and 2 unborn siblings.
Marvin is survived by his sisters, Mary Martha Patton Remines of Rural Retreat, VA and Edith Pearl Patton Kinder of Bluefield, VA, sisters-in-law, Ola Mae Patton of Rural Retreat, VA and Wanda “Gaye” Patton of Lynchburg, VA, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and great-great-great nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Service will be held at 12 P.M. Monday, March 9, 2026, at Grubb Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Collins officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 11 A.M. until service time. Burial will follow at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, VA.
