William (Bill) Henry Mutschler, Jr., born July 17, 1925, entered into heaven in God’s will on February 27, 2026. He was the son of William Henry Sr. and Marie Cecilia Fink Mutschler.
Bill entered the Navy V12 program at 17, earned an Electrical Engineering degree at Cornell University, and served in the Navy at the end of WWII. He married the love of his life, Betty Jean Kraus in 1948 and then completed his Masters Degree at Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1950. He was active in IEEE and worked for Allis Chalmers, then ITE before transferring to Wytheville to work at the ABB plant in Bland, Va. from which he retired in 1990.
Bill lived life to the fullest. He and Betty loved to travel and were avid gourmet cooks, even making their own cookbook that they shared with others. He had a green thumb and loved sharing the bounties of his vegetable garden. Bill was an active golfer, whistler, and walker, waving to everyone. He sang in the St. Mary’s Choir and at the Chautauqua Festival. Bill volunteered many years running bridge groups at the Wytheville Rec Center, and he continued hosting bridge groups at his residence through 2026. In recent years, along with bridge, Bill kept himself active with exercising, reading books and solving daily solitaire challenges.
Bill was devoted to his wife of 73 years, Betty Jean, who predeceased him in 2021. He is survived by daughters and sons-in law Joyce and Steve Negrotti of Berwyn, Pa., and Sue and Ron Thomas of Danville, Ca.; and son William S. Mutschler of East Burke, Vt.; 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
