Emery Earl Pruett, 86, of Wytheville, Virginia, died on Monday, March 30, 2026. He was born on June 9, 1939 in Bishop, Virginia. Emery was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Ann Mundy Pruett. His parents, Maxwell Alexander Pruett and Lelia Letrice Kirk Pruett also preceded him in death, along with six brothers and a sister. He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Pruett Jarmul and her husband Jack; and his son, George Maxwell (Mack) Pruett and his wife, Crystal. He also leaves behind four adoring grandchildren: Erin Veasey Recachinas and husband Michael; Claire Elizabeth Veasey-Deters and husband Jonathan; Keegan Earl Pruett; and Owen James Pruett. Emery was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Anne Marie Recachinas and Isaac Linwood Recachinas. His sister, Mary Iva Pruett Lawson of Richmond, Virginia, also survives him, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Emery was a graduate of Tazewell High School and a dedicated employee of Acme Markets for 42 years, where he served as store manager for Acme Markets and Big A Warehouses throughout Southwest Virginia and Southern West Virginia. After retirement, he worked at the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store where he enjoyed meeting travelers and sharing stories about his community. He volunteered with the Wythe County Gerontological Society, the local soup kitchen, and delivered food bags for Hope Packs. He was the family historian and has compiled an extensive written family history.

Funeral services will be held at Grubb Funeral Home, 215 South 6th Street, Wytheville, VA on Friday, April 3rd. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon until the service begins at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, Virginia.
