Donald Wayne "Don" Orfield Obituary
Donald Wayne Orfield left this world in a peaceful manner on April 3, 2026, after a life-threatening fall. He enjoyed life to the fullest for 91 years. He was born on January 8,1935. He was preceded in death by his father Walter Lee Orfield of Wytheville, and mother, Rosa Lee Grubb Orfield of Marion.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years Imogene Ring Orfield, and a son, Gregory Alan Orfield, and wife Patty of Chesapeake, VA. a sister-in-law, Eleanor Brown, special nieces and nephews, Vicky Brown, Angie Britain, Megan and Kevin Brehm, Elizabeth Brehm, Gregory and Tyler Corvin.
Don was a retired Virginia State Police Officer where he spent 40 years of service with that agency which included two years of active-duty military leave with the United States Army, Armor, with an additional four years in the US Army Active Reserves. He then spent an additional 13 years with the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office as Director of the Crimes Victims Unit. He was an active member of Bethel Methodist Church, Wytheville, Board Member of the Wythe Arts Council, Member of other various civic organizations, some being: Life Member of the Wythe County Genealogical and Historical Association, Life Member of Intermont Masonic Lodge 269, AF&AM, Roanoke Valley Scottish Rite Bodies, Kazim Shrine Temple, Craddock Royal Arch Masons, New River Shrine Club, and Barney in the Kazim Characters, Wytheville Moose Lodge 394, past Commander and Life Member of American Legion Post 229, Virginia State Police Association, and American Association of State Troopers, past member of Society of the Soiree of Wythe County, Wytheville VA 24382, Wytheville-Wythe and Bland Chamber of Commerce PO Box 563 Wytheville, VA 24382. Don loved working with and assisting others in need.

Funeral service will be held at 7 P.M. on April 7, 2026, at the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel with the Revered Aubrey Whitlow officiating and a Masonic Service will be held by his Brethren. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 P.M. until service time. A graveside service will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the West End Cemetery in Wytheville with the American legion Post 229 of Rural Retreat will be conducting Military graveside rites.
