Obituary of Melissa Perkins Jackson

Melissa Perkins Jackson, age 70, gained her angel wings surrounded by family on January 12, 2021. Melissa was born in Wytheville December 1950 to the late Eli and Ethel Perkins. She was a 1969 graduate of George Wythe High School and a graduate of Wytheville Community College. Melissa retired from Wythe County Social Service as Eligibility Food Stamps Supervisor after 30 years of service. In 1970, she married her high school sweetheart Robert “Bobby” Jackson. They spent 50 years together traveling and raising their 2 sons. Melissa and Bobby had a passion for camping and traveled to all 48 of the contiguous states. She spent many years as co-pilot for Bobby chasing him on many adventures in his hot air balloon. Melissa’s love of reading, shopping, knitting, and crocheting provided her family with many memories of her passions. Melissa’s greatest moments came from being Nana to her grandchildren whom all loved her dearly. Melissa is preceded in death by her parents Eli and Ethel Perkins, brother Wayne Perkins, and infant sister Sandra Perkins. She is survived by her husband Robert” Bobby” Jackson; a very special sister-in-law, Betsy Perkins; two sons and daughters-in-law Michael and Christina Jackson and Adam and Mekenzie Jackson; 11 grandchildren- Brittany, Kaylee, Victoria, Stephen, Aaron, Trenton, Oliver, Brysen, Malcolm, Genesis and Hannah, and one great-grandson, Arwyn. A Memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Sunny Hills Relay for Life Team at 2973 North 4th Street, Wytheville, VA 24382.
