Obituary of Elton Kent Robinson
Elton Kent Robinson left this world for eternal peace on January 21, 2021.
Born in Woodlawn Virginia, he grew up on a farm as one of six siblings. He met his wife Mabeline of nearly 65 years and was married in Princeton WV on May 23, 1956. After his two children, Mike and Angela, were born in West Virginia, he and Mabeline moved to Wytheville VA in 1960 where he lived the rest of his life. They were members of Wytheville Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and usher for many years. He was also a very active member of the Lions Club.
Dad, also known as Robby, left everyone he met with something special. A smile. A warm embrace. A genuine word of concern. An offer to help you if you needed anything. But above all he left us all with unconditional love. The kind of caring that is often so rare in this world. He was your real friend. Humble, and nothing fake about his feelings.
He was mischievous. He played a mean game of billiards. He loved sports, especially UNC basketball. And he loved music, especially bluegrass.
He and Mom raised their family, took care of their parents, enjoyed active careers, and then shifted to their “retirement” years which were anything but quiet. They traveled to visit family. They square-danced. They played bridge. And they truly gave back to Wythe County by volunteering extensively at the hospital, delivering food to shelters and supporting the Chautauqua festival. And often they simply checked on, delivered food to, or drove those who were shut into doctors or other appointments.
Elton was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Oma, and his five siblings, Clayton, Elmer, Ruth, Nina and Ray. He is survived by his wife, Mabeline, his two children Mike and Angela, his daughter in law Angie, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who loved Uncle Elton. He had five grandchildren, Kent, Wade (and Leah), Patrick (and Deanna and their son Cal), Zach (and Maggie), Julia (and Alex).
Given the extraordinary situation presented by COVID-19, the family is not having a service at this time. Instead, we ask that you keep Mom in your prayers, and call or visit when you can. We hope to have a celebration of life later this spring or summer.
