Obituary of Marie Tickle Umberger

Marie Tickle Umberger went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 4, 2021, while resting at her home surrounded by her loving children. Marie was born April 20, 1931, a beloved and cherished wife and a loving, caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was adored and loved by her family and will be sorely missed. Marie was an avid Christian and a longtime member of Legacy Church, previously known as New Covenant Fellowship, Wytheville, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Alfred O. Umberger. Also preceded her in death were her father, Benjamin T. Tickle, Sr., and her mother Nellie King Tickle, two sisters, Helen T. Milke, Thelma Tickle and four brothers, Chester Tickle, Raymond Tickle, Elmer Tickle, and B.T. Tickle, Jr. She is survived by her son, Odell Umberger and her daughter, Gayle U. Lanter. Also survived are three grandsons, A.O. Umberger, III, Seth Lanter and wife Ashley, and Levi Lanter. Two great grandsons, Carson Lanter and Miller Lanter. Also survived a sister, Erma T. Hackler, and a brother Roger W. Tickle and wife Gretchen. Many nieces, nephews, and other family also survive. A private family service for Marie T. Umberger will be held 2 P.M. Monday, February 8, 2021 at Grubb Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Pastor Brett McCleary and Chaplain Jim Tunnell.
