Obituary of Mary Otey Scott
Mary Otey Scott, age 81, of Wytheville passed away on March 26, 2021 in the presence of her family. Mary was born on December 6, 1939 in Wytheville to the late James Neal Six and Velma Denton Cline. She was raised, worked, and cared for her family in Wytheville for 81 years. Mary was a devout Baptist, loving wife, Mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and dear friend who shared her love for God, community, and family equally. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her for her sharp mind, quick wit, easy smile, and unconditional love. Mary was preceded in death by her special uncle, Jerry “J.B.” Six, great grandson, William Long-Caviness and many other missed and extended family.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, William Jackson “Bill” Scott, Sr. of Wytheville; two daughters and son-in-law, Dreama Scott Long; Robin and Mike Thompson; one son and daughter-in-law, William Jackson “Jacky” Scott, Jr. and wife Tammy; four grandchildren and spouses, Agnes Janette “A.J.” Long, Terri Thompson and Joshua Pettrey; David “Andrew” and Rebecca Long; and Brandon and Megan Thompson; four great grandchildren, Abigail Long, Sam Long, Sydney Long and Aidan Pettrey; uncle and aunt, June and Fay Patterson; special extended family, brother-in-law and family, James and Nancy Scott, Mary Ann, John and Luke Rosenbaum, Dennis, Suzanne, Steele and Savanah Scott, sisters-in-law and family, Joyce Ann Davis, Linda and Eric Malmberg, Bobbi and Roger Napper, Frankie and Donna Porter; special friends, Janet and “Cricket”, Wanda and George Hamm, “Big” Raymond Caviness and family, Teresa and Maxie Aker, Lora and Leo Grubb, Richard Eversole, Tony Duncan and family, Jim Hartlage and family, Phyllis Burris and family, David Long, Jeanne Folgesong and family, Jim Whitrow; special nieces and nephews, Virginia “Ginny” Crockett, Buster Crockett and family, Debbie Crockett and family; special cousins, Peggy Jean and David Cline and family, Debbie and Lou Martin, Cherrie, Patty Ann, Chaffin, Mary Alice and
her “special boy”, Jude Caviness.

Funeral service will be held 2 P.M. Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at the Grubb Funeral Home with The Reverend Doug Stuart officiating. Interment will follow in the West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
