Obituary of Charles Graham Crockett

Charles Graham Crockett 92 of Wytheville passed away on July 12, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents Alexander Graham Crockett and Lenna Painter Crockett, brother Alexander Crockett, and two daughters Angela Denise Crockett and Valerie Jeanne Crockett and his wife Betty Hammack Crockett. He is survived by his daughters, Renee L. Crockett of Max Meadows, VA, Michele Crockett Thompson and her husband Ethan Tobie Thompson of Double Oak, TX; Granddaughter’s, Emily Nicole Waclawczyk and husband Aaron of Austin, TX, Natalie Elise Thompson of Minneapolis, MN; Grandsons, Michael D Bell and his wife Karyn of Burbank, CA, Matthew D Bell of Sulphur Springs, TX. Charles was a graduate of Wytheville High School, Great Class of 1949. He was an Army Veteran and served in Korea during the Koren War from November 1952 until February 1954 with the 984th Engineer Field Maintenance Company, 45 Engineer Group, 8th Army. He was a life member of, American Legion Wythe County Post 9, VFW Post 2179, Koren War Veterans Association, Wythe County Historical Society, Wythe County Genealogical and Historical Association and Past President of the Sons of American Revolution, Lt. David Cox Chapter. Charles was a retired Reliability Engineer having worked on the design and development of the B-2 Stealth Bomber. He was a member of the Wytheville Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Wytheville Town Council from 1996-2004. He was instrumental in forming three different organizations and was the original Board of Directors of the New River Regional Water Authority, the Wytheville Training School and Culture Center, and the Crossroads Institute in Galax, VA. The Wytheville-Wythe Bland Chamber of Commerce named him Outstanding Citizen of the Year for 2013. Memorial service will be held 11 A.M. Wednesday July 19, 2023, at the Wytheville Presbyterian Church conducted by Reverend John Langham and John DiYorio, with interment to follow in the West End Cemetery. The American Legion Post #9 will conduct military graveside rites. The family will receive friends at the Presbyterian Church Tuesday, July 18, 2023, from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials to be made to the Presbyterian Children’s Home of the Highlands, 425 Grayson Road, Wytheville, VA 24382.
