Margaret McGee

Obituary of Margaret Astin McGee

Margaret Astin McGee age 86, of Wytheville, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023. She was born in West Virginia to the late Jim McKinnley “Cood” and Virginia Rose “Ginny” Gray Astin. She was preceded by her husband Hal McGee, two brothers, Norman Franklin Astin and James Randolph Astin; sister-in-law, Emma Phillippi Astin and a nephew, Jeffrey Mark Astin. Margaret “Marg” Mcgee was a very humble and kind person. Hal McGee married Margaret when they were young. She was very loyal and devoted to him the whole time they were together. She loved him a great deal. Margaret and her mother Ginny had a very special relationship. Both appreciated the value of hard work. The two of them were very resourceful. They had a garden, picked berries, cracked black walnuts and collected “pop” bottles to make their lives better and make a little extra money. Anything that was left over was used to spoil the grandchildren/niece and nephews, Janie, Jeff and Norm. Once her great-nephew Jacob arrived, he became the apple of her eye. She loved spending time with him and playing with him. Ginny and Marg’s house was always open to family and friends. If you were hungry, they would find something for you to eat. If you needed a ride, Margaret would take you wherever you needed to go, and never ask for gas money. Companionship and support were there for anyone who needed it. Family was the most important thing to her. She always went out of her way to visit, call and help the Astin, Gray and McGee extended families. A great lover of animals, Marg took in many cats and provided care and love to them. Over the years, she had many beloved pets. Snowball was her favorite dog in the late years of her life. Margaret was a member of the Locust Hill United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed attending services and special events. The family is very appreciative of the care and love from the staff at Carrington Place. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Matilda “Till” Moore Astin; niece, Virginia Jane “Janie” Astin; nephew Norman Franklin “Norm” Astin, Jr. and wife Cindy Astin; great nieces and nephews, Ashley Kent (Bob); Laura “Sissy” McGuire; Jacob Henry Astin; brothers-in-law, John McGee, June McGee, Kenneth McGee; sisters-in-law, Wilma McGee, Alma McGee Blevins and Jane McGee.
