We thank our lucky stars we were so fortunate to have known Marie for the last few years. Getting to visit with and see her infectious smile light up the room was a highlight to any meeting. I remember after having known her for a while she finally told me how, when we first met, she was too shy to approach and talk to me after a show and she thanked me for not letting her feel weird about it. lol She never seemed shy in any way towards anyone in our family. As a matter of fact she seemed to fit right in. Britney, thank you for sharing your wonderful mother with all of us, it is a treasure we will always hold close. Beautiful job with the memorial video, she truly touched all of us in this little group. Our hearts will continue to be with you, Marvin, Max, Toots and Jim. We love you Marie!

I am so sorry for your loss. I was in some of the musical theater productions with Marie, such as Nunsense and Godspell. She had a beautiful voice and was so much fun during rehearsals. She will be greatly missed and you are in my prayers.

The "Damsel" to my Vilan and the "Lucy" to my Charlie Brown. Marie was the best on and off of stage. She enjoyed life and shared her enthusiasm with everyone. I'm so sorry she didn't get to enjoy her retirement. God bless Jim, Brittany and family.

Marie brought joy to all who knew her. Her smile!
She was a rock. An honest and loyal friend to so many. I cherish the memories and cry along with those left with that emptiness she filled wherever she went.
She loved deep and hard. And was loved so much. Funny and fierce. What a lady!

Marie was a visionary who touched many lives in many places. She will be missed! She left us much too soon. But God picks the most beautiful flowers for his garden.

I really only got to know Marie this past year, but she was so kind and compassionate toward me as a new teacher in her school. She always greeted everyone with a smile. I am so blessed to have known her and I know she will be missed by all the hearts she touched throughout the years.

I'm sorry not to be able to attend Thursday. Marie was a hoot. She co-administrated the Wythe and Wytheout list with me, never met a social justice cause she wouldn't take up, and was kindness personified. Also a laugh a minute. I was looking forward to doing fun silly outings with her after her retirement and will miss her. All good wishes to Brittany and her family. I can't imagine how this must feel.

To the family...
I will always remember Ms. Coen as the "Polka Dot" teacher. When I had her in 7th grade for Life Science, she overheard how I dislike Polka Dots, and always picked on me after that, even when I became a colleague with her in Wythe County Public Schools. She will be remembered as one of my favorite teachers growing up. Know that I am praying for you that God would comfort you all in this time of need!

I remember meeting Marie on line too many years ago to mention. She and I got to know each other and became fast friends over the years. We talked about school, our kids, and about life in general. I will miss those chats.
My condolences go out to Brittany who I got to see grow up through pictures and chats, her husband, and her children.
Keep the memories close. Even though the pain of loss, they will comfort you.
Please call on me if you need anything.

Marie was a devoted and caring professional but was also a smart, lively, and decent human being. Count me among those that will miss her. I am so sorry she didn't get to enjoy a long retirement with her beloved family.

Becky, I am so sorry for your loss. I came to “know” Marie recently via Facebook and always found her posts positive and thoughtful. No doubt, it’s awful to lose a sister at our age. My wish for you is for peace and comfort during this time. Much love to you, Beth Turner Coakley
