Obituary of Robert N. Alderman, Sr.

Robert “Bob” N. Alderman, Sr., 82 of Radford Virgina passed away peacefully at home on August 18, 2023. Bob was born July 25, 1941, in Carrol County VA to the late Edgar and Ruth Cockerham Alderman. He served in the United States Army from 1958-1965 and was stationed in Germany for part of that time. He was honorably discharged in 1965 with the rank of Sgt. In his later years he worked for as the Manager for Firestone, as a police officer for the Town of Blacksburg, owner of Southwestern Tire and Auto Center in Radford, a Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputy, a salesman with Harvey’s, Alderman’s Automobiles, and Shelor’s. His last job was as a Magistrate for the Commonwealth of Virginia in Montgomery County, Virginia. He was a doting dog dad, and many would see him with a lap full of dog while driving. A wonderful self-taught artist, when in the mood, he loved to paint with acrylics and do landscapes, animals, old houses, and historic buildings. He loved to fish, especially surf fishing in the Outer Banks. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his sisters Shirley Sindlinger, Margaret Hill, Brenda Goldberg, and his best friend Merrill Sifford. Dogs Taffy, Nikki, and Nikki (2). He is survived by his children Robert N. Alderman, Jr., Katrina Alderman Compton and husband Dirk, and Natasha Alderman Kozel. Also, his brother Ronnie Alderman and wife Audrey, sister Donna Gregory and husband Jay, and brother-in-law Barry Goldberg; four grandchildren Cade Compton, Conner Compton, Landen Kozel and Katie Kozel. Also left to mourn his loss are his beloved dog Princess and friend of the family Patricia Gordon. In lieu of flowers, please hug your pets and make a donation of time or money to your favorite animal shelter or rescue organization. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at the Southwest Virginia Veteran’s Cemetery, 5550 Bagging Plant Rd, Dublin, VA 24084.
