Obituary of SSG Edward Earl Shumate

On Wednesday, January 18, 2017, we will be saying good bye to our husband, father, brother and uncle. SSG Edward Earl Shumate, “US Army Retired” age 69, of Wytheville, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2017. He was the son of the late Earl Monroe & Lela M. Shupe Shumate. He is survived by his wife, Martha Ireson Shumate of Wytheville; daughter, Lela Shumate of Wytheville; son, Michael Shumate of Wytheville; sisters and brother-in-law, Sandra Montgomery of Wytheville, Nancy & Jim Graves of North Carolina; brothers and sister-in-law, Albert Ray Shumate of Dublin, Va., Joseph Leon Shumate of Wytheville, Daniel Martin & Christine Shumate of Wytheville, Samuel Phillippi Shumate of Wytheville, Barton Shumate of Wytheville; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive. Funeral service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church conducted by Pastor James H. Bangle and The Reverend Joe Mack Taylor, with a graveside service at 2 PM in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin, Va. The family will receive friends at Grubb Funeral Home Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 6 PM to 8 PM..
