Russell Rogers

Obituary of Russell Lee Rogers

Russell Lee “Russ” Rogers was born on October 19, 1950. Russ was raised in the “Stumps” area of Max Meadows where he spent his childhood days fishing and playing baseball with his friends. Russ met and married the love of his life, Sharon, in 1969, and they would have celebrated 55 years of marriage later this month. Together, they had two children, Kevin and Stephanie. For those that knew Russ, they immediately think of his love for the Virginia Tech Hokies, his hobby of collecting knives, and his daily Starbucks coffee. His favorite way to spend his time, though, was with his family. Russ loved supporting his grandchildren by attending their many sporting events and school functions whenever he could. He was their #1 fan! Russ was preceded in death by his mother, Clara, father, Elbert, and brother, Ronald. Survivors include his loving wife, Sharon, son, Kevin (wife Amanda), daughter, Stephanie Gravley (husband Greg), and special niece, Melissa Ehren (husband, Alan, and their daughter, Kylie). His grandchildren, Kaelyn, Drew, Cason, and Ryan will treasure their many memories made with their “Pops.” Others left to cherish his memory are a close cousin, Linda Jean Henley, niece, Angie Ward, and his Wytheville “Starbucks family”. Graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at the Mt. Mitchell Community Church Cemetery with the Reverend Ted Anders and the Reverend Aubrey Whitlow officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Tuesday at the Grubb Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Mount Mitchell Global Methodist Church Cemetery Fund. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.grubbfuneralhome.com. The Rogers family is in the care of Grubb Funeral Home.
