Obituary of George Aristides Burkett

George Aristides Burkett, age 88, of Speedwell passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at his home. He was the son of the late George Frazier and Gracie Pearl Vipperman Burkett and preceded in death by his sisters, Annie Bird Burkett Sheets, Ella Mae Burkett Winebarger, Helen Louise Burkett, Cora Lucille Burkett Maloskey, Mary Susan Burkett Bridgeman; brothers, Ernest Clarence Burkett, Charles Edward Burkett. George was a devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle whose life was marked by both personal and professional achievements. With a distinguished career at Chantilly Crushed Stone, George began as a heavy equipment operator and swiftly advanced to the role of Foreman, reflecting his dedication and skill. His career, characterized by hard work and leadership, paved the way for a fulfilling retirement. After retiring, George and his beloved wife, Viola, relocated to the home they had lovingly built in Speedwell, VA. There, they embraced their retirement years with contentment, enjoying the tranquility and fulfillment that came from years of hard work and a life well-lived. George is survived by his wife, Shirley Viola Burkett of Speedwell; son, George Edward Burkett of Bumpass, VA, daughter-in-law, Lori Ann Perkins of Bumpass, VA; grandson, Jacob Edward Burkett and spouse Amanda Jane (Tesh), Martinsburg, WV; granddaughter, Nichole Ashley Burkett Perry and husband Williams Charles; great grandsons, Ian Burkett of Martinsburg, WV, Avery Burkett of Martinsburg, WV; brother, Marion Oliver Burkett of Spotsylvania, VA; multiple nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral service will be held 2 P.M. Monday, August 19, 2024, at Grubb Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Reverend Ken Gilespie with interment to follow in the Speedwell United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 1 P.M. until service time. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Speedwell United Methodist Church.
