Obituary of Benjamin Mason Bourne, Jr.
Benjamin “Bennie” Mason Bourne, Jr., age 88, of Max Meadows, VA passed away Tuesday August 1, 2017. He was born May 26, 1929 in Wytheville, the son of the late Benjamin Mason Bourne, Sr. and Sarah Frances Booher Bourne. Bennie loved farming and spending time with friends, and he never met a stranger. He was a cattle farmer his entire life, taking over the family farm after his father passed away when Bennie was 19. He was also a survivor of the 1950 Wytheville polio epidemic.
In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his wife, Dorothy Taylor Bourne, sisters Dorothy Bourne Lacy, Elizabeth Bourne Brown, Ethel Bourne Sumner, and brother, Henry G. Bourne. He is survived by his sister Edith “Scottie” Bourne Kegley of Wytheville, nieces Kay Farmer and Patty Lacy, nephews Bob Lacy and Bill Lacy, and extended family.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Grubb Funeral Home Chapel conducted by The Reverend Brad Simpson and Reverend Clayton Farmer with interment to follow in East End Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 AM until service time at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be David Farmer, Davis Goforth, Doug Kline, Bill Lacy, Stanley Martin, and Dewey Stoots. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Brown, Chimer Durham and Ernest Wilson. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the Wytheville Presbyterian Church.
