Josephine Poole

Obituary of Josephine Akers Poole

Josephine Akers Poole, 79 of Max Meadows, passed away on October 24, 2017. She was born on March 26, 1938, in Wythe County. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Malcolm and Lona Terry Akers. She was preceded in death by her brother Joseph “Jimmy” Malcolm Akers, Jr.

She retired from Donkenny, Inc. She enjoyed collecting shot glasses and cookbooks. Her children and grandchildren were always a priority and she made sure they were spoiled as only a mother/grandmother could do. She was especially proud of her great-grandchild and he always put a smile on her face. She faithfully read 10 chapters of her Bible every day. She loved watching old westerns and her favorite was “The Virginian.” She loved her coca-cola too.

Josie is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Sam Poole: daughter and son-in-law, Keesty and Paul Moore of Max Meadows; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Lisa Poole of Max Meadows; grandchildren, Danielle and Anthony Sullivan of Raleigh, NC; Matthew Moore of Smithfield, VA; Lynzi Poole and Jonathan Poole of Max Meadows; one great-grandchild Ashton Sullivan of Raleigh, NC.

Funeral services will be held 7 PM Thursday, October 26, 2017 at St. Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by The Reverend Connie Black and The Reverend J.C. McPeak. The family will receive friends at the church from 5 PM until service time. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
