I am so sorry for your all's loss. Jim was a true gentleman that radiated love and happiness any time you saw him. I always loved to talk to him about his beautiful flowers. I'm sure he will be greatly missed but what a wonderful addition to God's garden.
Sincerely,

I am so sad for the loss of your loved one. I worked with Jim at the Wytheville Hospital in the early 70s. He was a fine man of great integrity. He was friendly to absolutely everyone and always has that big smile on his face. I know without a doubt, that all if your family will miss him so very much. All of the photos of your family are wonderful!! God bless you with his wonderful peace now and always.

Pappaw Jim,
Words can't express how much you've meant to me all these years. You've been my second best friend (Jamie's always my best friend) the whole time I've known you. You've forgotten more about being a great dad, husband, son, and Pappaw than any of us will ever know. You've taught me a lot about humility, love, being a dad, and being there for my family.
Over the years I can't begin to count the number of times I've been so thankful to have you to turn to for advice or just to have you lend me your ear to blow off steam when things were bothering me. I'll never forget the trips we made to Hollybrook hauling enough mulch to sink a battleship. I'll always remember you picking on me because I liked Fords instead of Chevrolets. Most importantly though, I'm so thankful for a father-in-law I loved, respected, trusted, and admired. You always treated me as a son more so than a son-in-law. You accepted me into your family and you accepted Ryan as if he were your own flesh and blood.
I've often shared with friends that all the money in the world couldn't buy better in-laws than you and Mary Helen and it's true. You always encouraged me, backed my decisions, gave me sound advice if I was about to mess up, and helped me through so many tough times.
You and Mary Helen gave me the greatest gift I've ever received in Jamie. She is the love of my life, the sunshine that brightens my darkest days, an amazing mom, and my single best friend and biggest cheerleader.
Most importantly though is that you set the standard for all of us when it comes to our personal relationship with Christ and our walk with God. I am so thankful that I received my call to serve as a deacon while you were still with us.
We all know that God knows it already but he called one of his most precious angels home with him Saturday. This family and community have a huge void in them right now but heaven just got a lot brighter. Your infectious smile and amazing personality are awaiting us and I can't wait to see you again. We'll kick back with a sweet tea, not worry about the caffeine, and laugh until our sides hurt.
I love you buddy and I miss you terribly

Please accept our condolences on the loss of a husband, father and grandfather... I am C.L. "Lindy" Porter's youngest son and regretfully, I did not get to know Jim. I would have liked to...I know he was a good, Christian man with love for his family, church and community. My heart goes out to each of you and our prayers are with you during this time. Heaven gained another saint when Jim passed....

When we lose someone to death it is a sad time for families. We learn from the Bible that Jehovah is not the cause of death.-Job 34:10. Romans 5:12 teaches that all of us inherited death from Adam. Even though we die we have hope of living again in a beautiful paradise on earth in which sickness and death will be gone forever. -Acts 24:15; Isaiah 33:24; Revelation 21:4
