Obituary of John Ernest Palmer
John Ernest Palmer of Roanoke, left this world for the eternal glory of Jesus on February 27, 2018, after having fought a courageous battle with Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy. John was an inspiration to his family, friends and caregivers with his incredible spirt and enthusiasm for life. Special caregivers Robin Hartman and Carolyn Cole-Harris, were a great value during this time.
John was a graduate of North Cross School and attended Emory & Henry for 2 years and graduated from Radford University. John was always a good student and excelled in nearly all team sports. John had a colossal passion for football and was pleased to have been a member of the 1987 & 1988 North Cross Football Team which was 9-2 and 11-0 respectively and won the Virginia State Championship both years.
John is survived by his parents, Thomas H., Sr. and Beverly Crawford Palmer of New Castle, VA; daughter and son-in-law, Taylor and Matthew Shifflett of Chuckey, TN; grandson, Braiden Shifflett of Chuckey, TN; brothers and sisters-in-law, Everett W. and Darcie Palmer of New Castle, VA, Thomas H., Jr. and Sheila of Vinton, VA; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A graveside service will be held 11 A.M. Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Mt. Pleasant Community Cemetery, conducted by The Reverend Joe Mack Taylor. In lieu of flowers donation can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, PO Box 97075, Washington, DC 20090.
