Obituary of Garnett Leon Cregger

Garnett Leon Cregger, age 69, of Rural Retreat, after a long, courageous battle with cancer, with God by his side, Leon went home to be with the Lord on January 13, 2019.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7

He was born May 31, 1949 to the late Garnett E. “Poage” and Ellen Dawn “Tooter” Hall Cregger.  Leon was a wonderful Son, Husband, Father, Pawpaw, “Brother” and Friend beyond compare.  He was loved by all who met him and returned that love tenfold.  He was a strong, caring man who spread smiles and joy in his wake.  He will be greatly missed.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 47 years Dianne Corvin Cregger; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen “Cricket” and Tim King of Rural Retreat; son and fiancé, Kevin Cregger and Amy Bachman of Wytheville; grandchildren Carmen and Evan King of Rural Retreat; four step grandchildren, eight step-greatgrandchildren; sister-in-law, Becky Corvin of Abingdon; ”brother” Lin Edwards and wife Jackie of Port Republic, VA; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.  Leon will be especially missed by great-great niece Karsyn Wren Dunkley who loved her “Arno” and prayed for him unceasingly.  God Has This was the mantra that made our journey of two years possible.  We thank all who traveled with us for their support and prayers.  May God Bless you.

Memorial service will be held 6 P.M. January 17, 2019 at St Paul Lutheran Church in Crockett, VA with Pastor Jonathon Hammon officiating.  The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 P.M. at the church.
