I’m late to add to this but I wanted to be sure to express my condolences and also my memories and love for Granny Ruth. I married Bobby Hedrick’s son, Andy in 1992. She always remembered Andy’s birthday and holidays and I thought she must be quite special to do this. We became pen pals, which started more than 25 years of usually homemade or recycled, cards and letters from Granny Ruth filled with wit and wisdom. On a family vacation to Philadelphia about 5 years ago we were able to detour through Wytheville and finally meet her!❤️ We mentioned we’d be passing thru in a few hours- thinking we could pick up pizza or fried chicken and have dinner, but when we arrived dinner had been prepared for us by Granny Ruth, Kathy & Willa! We met Angelia too. I was sooo happy to finally meet everyone, especially Granny Ruth! We had a delicious buttery, cream cheese corn that will be forever called Granny Ruth’s Sweet Corn. We remained pen pals but my last letter didn’t make it in the mail and for that I’m very sorry. Please know how much I enjoyed corresponding with her over the years! Much love to all, Bridget Hedrick.
