My last visit with Mrs. Campbell was on Thursday afternoon, July 21, 2016, at which time she expressed her happiness and pride in remaining in her own home at age 93 despite suffering difficult breathing, especially in the recent heat and humidity. She was such a remarkable institution that I fully expected her to get over that problem and carry on as she had done for so many years. I am greatly saddened at her loss and send my prayers on behalf of her eternal soul and all her loved ones.
Mrs. Campbell honored her husband's memory by assisting me in my work on the biography of his great grandfather, my great-great grandfather William Alexander Stuart. Stuart Bland Campbell, Jr., like me, was fascinated by family history, and Janet continued to hold numerous items available nowhere else, to my knowledge, to the study of the Stuart family. She was very generous in giving me access to the family Bible and showing me her wonderful collection of portraits.
I regret that I have not met the Campbells' children but invite them to contact me. I met with Janet Campbell on three occasions, the first time in April 2015 for an extended look through family memorabilia. I am happy to share anything I learned from her, and I hope to keep learning from members of the Campbell family before I complete my work. God bless!
