Obituary of Cecil Bynum Akers
Cecil Bynum (CB) Akers, age 93. Born on July 1,1927 of Boca Raton, Fl and formerly of Wytheville died peacefully on January 1, 2021. CB was a WWII Army veteran serving in Italy and Germany thru 1947. He was an active businessman operating business in Va., Ohio, and Florida for many years. He enjoyed being involved in his community and government services during his years in Blacksburg, Va. In later years, his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and his annual visits back to Wytheville to spend time with his special niece, Linda Porter who always made it fun for all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Walter and Ismay Akers; brother, James Clyde Akers, brother, Eugene V Akers, sister, Hazel Martin; son, James Michael Akers, and stepson Billy Manes. CB is survived by his wife Carol, son David Akers and wife Cheryl of Coconut Creek, Fl , daughter Susan Collins and husband Chris of Macon, Ga., stepson David Manes and wife Kathleen of Clermont, Fl., and stepdaughter Jennifer McConathy and husband Erik of Spring Hill, Tn.; nine grandchildren, Colby Collins and wife Melissa, Christian Collins, Cameron Collins and wife Amy, Connor Collins, Calen Collins, Matthew Akers and wife Alyssa, Sarah Akers; step grandchildren Mark McConathy and Joseph McConathy. He was much loved and will be greatly missed.
Funeral service will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday January 9, 2021 at Fairview United Methodist Church conducted by Reverend Aubrey Witlow with internment to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations to Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery maintenance fund or donations to Fanconi Anemia Research Fund would be greatly appreciated.
