Obituary of Roy Roger Havens

Roy Roger Havens, 78, of Statesville, NC, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2021, at Gordon Hospice House following a brief illness. He was born on April 21, 1942, in Wytheville, VA to the late Roy Edward and Ovella Havens. Roy was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He married the love of his life, Donna Marie Thompson on August 3, 1963. Together they shared 57 years of marriage and made the best of memories traveling, camping and enjoying time with friends and family. He was an avid Ford lover. He spent many years welding and building trusses. He also spent many years running his automotive business with his son and best friend Greg. He was deeply loved and will greatly be missed. In addition to his parents, Roy is preceded in death by his son, Gregory A. Havens; sister, Margaret H. Dix; and brothers Charles “Don” Havens, Robert “Joe” Havens, William “Bill” Havens and Randolph “Speck” Havens. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Donna T. Havens; grandchildren, Gregory “Logan” Havens, Lauren Blake Havens and Amber Cashion; great-grandchildren, Axil and Cayson Cashion; sister Patricia Jackson (Malcolm); brothers, Phillip “Babe” Havens, David “Toby” Havens (Donna), Gary Havens and sisters-in-law; Gladys Havens and Mary Havens; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. “If there were no valleys of sadness and death, we could never really appreciate the sunshine of happiness on the mountain top.” Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Grubb Funeral Home in Wytheville, VA. Funeral service will follow at 2 P.M., with interment to follow at West End Cemetery. Covid-19 restrictions will apply.
