Obituary of Eugene McMurran Griffin

Lieutenant Colonel Eugene (Gene) McMurran Griffin lost his battle with COPD on September 11, 2016 at Northeast Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church, and avid outdoorsman and hunter,and a Master Gardener. Gene was born on July 24,1935 in Woodlawn, Virginia, to the late Charlie Griffin and Lucille Kenney Griffin. He attended Woodlawn High School, received a Bachelor’s Degree from Virginia Tech and a Master’s Degree from Ball State University. He served in the United States Air Force for 28 years earning numerous commendation including a Bronze Star. He was preceded in death by his sister, Edith (Henry) Altizer and brother, Bill Griffin. He is survived by his spouse, Marion Pratt Griffin; son, Dr. Eugene (Mac) Griffin and fiancée Janice Kaiser-Koller of Denver, Colorado; grandson, Chace Griffin of Denver; sisters, Charlene (Harold) Hill and Barbara (Dennis) Lineberry of Woodlawn, Virginia; sister-in-law, Joy Griffin of Pennsylvania; numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Grubb Funeral Home Monday, September 19, 2016 from 11AM until 12 Noon. A graveside service will follow at 2PM Monday, with full Military Honors at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin, Virginia. A Celebration of Life for Gene will be held at Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church Maintenance Fund, 16245 Nacogdoches Road, San Antonio, Texas 78247, or a charity of your choice.
