Obituary of Thurman Paul Lephew, Jr.

Thurman Paul Lephew Jr., age 72 of Wytheville VA, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 16, 2021. Paul, also known to others as “Gooney” was born January 5, 1949 in Austinville VA. Paul is preceded in death by his parents Paul Sr. and Mrs. Willie Lephew of Austinville and brother-in-law, Jimmie Porter also of Austinville. Survivors include his soul mate of 31 years, Joyce “Tiny Lake” Hawkins of Wytheville and his three step-daughters, Karen Hawkins of Wytheville, Vickie and Byron Schram of Wytheville, and Diane Hawkins of Graham’s Forge. Paul is also survived by his brother Sam L. Lephew of Austinville, and sister Suzetta Porter also of Austinville. Paul was also a beloved uncle to his four nephews; James Porter, Todd and Tammy Porter, and Shaine and Melody Porter all of Austinville and Sam P. Lephew of Max Meadows. He is also survived by his great nieces; Montana and Chad Arnold, their two children, Lucas and Hazel of Austinville and Finley Lephew of Max Meadows. A beloved brother, uncle, and step-father, he was also a wonderful grandfather and great-grandfather, survived by: Meghan and Chase Musser, their daughter, Kamryn of Orlando Florida, Tyler Hash of Rural Retreat, and Emily and Justin Weber, their daughter, special great-granddaughter, Melanie of Rural Retreat, and special granddaughter, Sara Caldwell of Wytheville; and the Grubb family. Funeral services will be held at Life Changers Christian Center of Wytheville on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 7pm with Pastor Todd Porter officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M. on Thursday at the church. Graveside service will be held at the Lephew Family Cemetery in Max Meadows on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Life Changers Christian Center.
