Obituary of Nathan Edward Smith

Nathan Edward Smith, age 64 passed away October 17, 2021, following a long and valiant battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born October 4, 1957, in Lafayette IN, where he resided in the early years of his life. He moved to Virginia in the 90’s to be near his parents. He was a graduate of Ben Davis High School in Indiana. He was a chef on the USS Eisenhower during a stint in the Navy and a baker for twenty years. Nathan loved nature, photography, animals, (especially his cats), collecting antiques, and helping others through his work at a local food bank. He was a loving son, brother, and friend. He was preceded in death by his father, James (Jim) Smith and his brother Bobby Ray Smith. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his loving mother, Gay Jewell Smith. His uncle and aunt, Curt and Jerri Jewell, and numerous cousins and friends. The family will receive friends to honor Nathan’s life at Grubb Funeral Home in Wytheville, VA on Sunday October 24, 2021, from 1-3 P.M.
