Obituary of Betty Lou Kelly

Betty Lou Kelly, age 85, gained her angel wings on October 25th, 2021. Betty was born in Roanoke VA December 6, 1935 to Alburn and Admiral Cole. She was a 1954 graduate of Jefferson High School and a graduate of Wytheville Community College. Betty married the love of her life Pastor Gary “PK” Kelly in 1954. In their 42 years of marriage, they spent many of those years serving the local Lutheran churches and ministering to the youth in our area. There wasn’t a part of the church that Betty didn’t know how to do, from Sunday school, bible school, church camps, bible studies, choir director, pianist, church secretary, making bulletins for Sunday morning and being a lay pastor for Lutheran Mountain Ministries. Over the years when not actively mothering her 5 children she taught Kindergarten at St John’s Lutheran Church, taught reading at the prison farm, worked for the Enterprise, and was church secretary at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Betty was very much into clubs and social events. She had been an active member in the Red Hat Society, New Castle Historical Society, New Castle Friends of the Library, New Castle Book Club and New Castle Garden Club. Betty is preceded in death by her parents Alburn and Admiral Cole and her husband Pastor Gary “PK” Kelly. She is survived by 5 children Gary William Kelly and Ronna Rich, Timothy David Kelly, Michael Goebel Kelly, Deidre Kelly Jones and Garvice and Christina Marie Jackson and Michael. 7 Grandchildren Sean Kelly, Erin Kelly, Brandon Kelly and Abby, Monica Brown and Ian, Angela Acres and Scott Akers, Amy Deacon and Brian and Katy Davis and Dustin. 15 Great grandchildren Brittany, Kaylee, Stephen, Evelyn, Finley, Isla, Emmy, Sara, Tristen, Conner, Zoe, Caitlyn, Addison, Kinley and Jacob and 1 great-great grandson Arywn. A special friend Lisa Spencer and her special little dog Baby-doll. Family will receive friends and visitors at Sunny Hills Community Church 2973 N 4th Street, Wytheville, Saturday, October 30, 2021 from 2-4 with a memorial service to follow at 4pm, Pastor Alan Wilder is officiating. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to Open Door Cafe, 680 W Main Street Wytheville, VA 24382.
