Obituary of James Lucian Gleaves, IV
James Lucian Gleaves IV, passed away on December 30th. “Luke” was born in Charlottesville, VA December 12, 1947, to the late James L. Gleaves Jr. and Dorothy Vernon Gleaves. He was a 1966 graduate of George Wythe High School and attended Randolph-Macon Academy and Ferrum College. Luke enlisted in the US Air Force and served four years primarily at Langley AFB-TAC. Retiring after a 30-year career at Volvo as a machinist, he was a dedicated member of UAW Local 2069 serving on the Executive and Veteran’s Committees. Luke worked tirelessly to honor and improve the lives of veterans whether wounded, homeless, POW-MIA or active service personnel.
Also preceded in death by a sister Leissa Ann, he is survived by longtime companion Carla Berry, sister Lynn Nelson and her children, Ashley & Jake, brother Eric Gleaves wife Renee and sons Wes, Aaron & Sam.
Eagle Scout, motorcyclist, patriot, mountain man, artist, hot rodder, machinist, Maroon and Christian, Luke’s passions were as diverse as was his love of life. Some folks are simply larger than life. Luke’s heart earned him a spot in that fraternity. In lieu of flowers please donate to the UAW Local 2069 Veteran’s Committee, P.O. Box 306, Dublin VA 24084.
