DERRAIL ROLAND

Obituary of DERRAIL WAYNE ROLAND

Derrail Wayne Roland was born on January 4, 1985, in Fort Smith AR to William Derrail Roland and Romona Sue Roland. Our Lord decided to bring him home suddenly on February 10, 2022 in a farm accident. Growing up in Shady Point OK, though a member of Shady Point Assembly of God, he was slightly notorious for fun loving shenanigans, including a certain grass fire which may have sparked his desire to one day become a firefighter. He attended Shady Point School, then Poteau High School. where he participated in rodeo- saddle bronc. Derrail earned a scholarship for Rodeo to Eastern Oklahoma State, in Wilburton, where he studied Forestry. He continued to Rodeo with Central Regional Rodeo Association until much against his wishes, an accident ended that career in 2007. But adventure was never far behind. He started working for Helmerich and Payne Drilling in 2005. He spent most of his working life in the oil field until 2016, finishing his career with Nabors Arabia, working in Saudi Arabia. He left the oil field to be home when his first child was born. He became a member of the New Generation Supplements family in Poteau OK. He took up the hobby of running 5k's in 2016 and was always a top finisher. On April 22, 2006, Derrail married his best friend Mindy Lee and they began chasing their dream of a ranch. They Built The 4 13 Ranch in Eastern OK. Breeding Andalusian and Friesian cross horses that sold all over the country and developing a cattle herd that eventually focused on Charolais. Their greatest dream became reality in 2016 with the birth of their daughter, Josie Logan Roland. Their family became complete in 2020 with the birth of twin boys, Caleb Lee and Clayton Elliott. In 2021, the family decided to find a new dream that allowed more time with their family. Moving from the ranch to southwest Virginia, the family bought Twin Pine Farm outside Wytheville. Derrail spent the best part of the last year with his wife and children exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains and spending time with family and friends. He was looking forward to restoring the historic farm house and raising his family there. He instantly loved the community and was an accepted Volunteer with Speedwell fire department. He began working for Patterson Pest Control and enjoyed getting to know the area even better doing home inspections and, as always, meeting people. No one was a stranger. Never settling for anything less than adventure, he had the opportunity to meet the family at Black Bear Harley Davidson and just accepted their offer to become the newest member of their team.
