Obituary of Thelma Irene Neese Garland

Thelma Irene Neese Garland, age 94, passed away on Thursday May 12, 2022. She was born in Stoney Fork community of Wythe County on January 27, 1928 to the late Guy Sawyer and Sophia Pruitt Neese. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard Yokely Garland; daughter, Patricia Garland Lambert; grandson, Christian Shane Hearn, great grandson, Justin Painter; sister, Edith Cowan and Oneida Garland; brothers, Dewey, Junior, Bruce, Roy and Earnest Neese. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda Hearn Casimo and Michael Joseph of Maryland; Sharon Garland Rogers and Russell Lee of Wytheville; son and daughter-in-law, Jack Edward Garland and Kimberly Renee Garland of Nashville; six grandchildren, Denise Hearn Painter of Glen Burie, MD; Melissa Diane Lambert Ehren of Ft. Mill, SC; Kevin Rogers of Roanoke; Stephanie Poole Gravely of Wytheville; Abigail Garland and Samuel Garland both of Nashville; great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Lillian Neese of Mooresville, NC; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 11 A.M. Monday, May 16, 2021 at Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church with Reverend Ted Anders and Reverend Aubrey Whitlow officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Sunday at the Grubb Funeral.
