Obituary of Clenda Wills Hunley

Clenda Wills Hunley, 74, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, June 3, 2022. Clenda was born October 29, 1947 and was raised in Wythe County. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Norma Umberger Wills and Henry Eugene Wills; her husband, Jack Hunley; and a sister-in-law, Mary Lee Mabe. Clenda loved to read. With Clenda and Mary Lee swapping books, they read every book in each one of their homes plus more. She loved to visit with family and friends. She thoroughly enjoyed their company. She spent much of her time reading and communicating with even more friends on the phone, until Dementia stole her ability to continue with these activities. Clenda served several years in The Jaycees Women’s Auxiliary. She assisted children with reading at Spiller Elementary and retired from the Wythe County Health Department. Clenda was a long-time member of West End United Methodist Church and later, a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Heather Hunley (Nick) Kapranos; grandchildren, Yianni and Tasi Kapranos; sisters, Nancy Wills of Wytheville, Joyce Murray of Langhorn, Pennsylvania, and Deborah Saneda of Wytheville; Brother-in-Law, Bobby (Josephine) Hunley of Rural Retreat, a Sister-in-Law, Linda (Gary) Green of Knoxville, Tennessee and special cousin Sue (Joe) Hale. Several other nieces and nephews also survive. Special extended family includes: Anastasia Kapranos, of Fairfax, VA, Sophia Kapranos of Landover, MD, and Tony (Candice) Kapranos of Mechanicsburg, PA. Clenda is also survived by two very special caregivers who have become part of the family, Emma Rorrer of Wytheville and Martha Hagy of Rural Retreat. The family would like to send a special thank you to Hospice of Southwest Virginia. The entire staff has been beyond knowledgeable and supportive in every aspect through this journey. Without Sharon (her main nurse), Emma and Martha, Clenda’s journey would not have been as peaceful as it was. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at the church at 3:00 following the visitation, with Pastors Doug Silvers and Aubrey Whitlow officiating.
