Obituary of Nellie Mattielene Rutherford Bartlett

Nellie Mattielene Rutherford Bartlett, 85, of Galax, departed for her eternal home on July 7th, 2022. Holding her soft hands was her devoted husband of 67 years, William (Bill) S. Bartlett, Sr. Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, James Curtis and Annie Buchanan Rutherford, her son, Ronnie Bartlett, her grandson, Curtis Bartlett, and by her close brother, Claude Rutherford (Phylis). In addition to her husband, Bill, Nellie is survived by her sons, Gregory Bartlett (Susan), Doug Bartlett (Debra), and Sam Bartlett (Linda). She is also survived by her grandchildren Josh Bartlett, Jenna Bartlett (Matt), Anthony Isom (Kendra), Nathian McFarland (Amber), Tiffany Absher, Brad Dew (Kaitlyn), Stacey Claybrook (Josh), Bethany Bartlett Lakomy (George), Faith Bartlett, Caleb Bartlett (Kayla), and Victoria Bartlett Towler (Jacob). Nellie was also blessed with 4 great-grandchildren, 12 step great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mrs. Bartlett graduated from Bluefield college and, in addition to raising 4 cowboys while Bill drove a truck, she worked many years as the receptionist at the Galax Gazette where she greeted everyone with her contagious smile. Nellie was an active member of West Galax Methodist Church where she loved to serve and study the Bible. She will be remembered for her sensitive spirit, her devotion as a wife, mother, grandma, and for being kind to everyone she met. The family would like to say a special thank you to caregiver Sue Loggins, for Mountain Valley Hospice, and for the professional service provided by Dr. Fant and Grayson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The family will receive friends from 12PM to 1PM, Monday, July 11, 2022 with the service to follow at 1PM at West Galax Methodist Church in Galax with Sam Bartlett and Reverend Richard Gregory officiating. Interment will follow at Monta Vista Gardens in Galax. In lieu of flowers, you can make contributions to Police Fitness, 189 Willow Bend Dr. Galax, VA. 24333 or to West Galax Methodist Church.
